This is the current extent of my Roper research. I am currently struggling to find a record of the birth of my Great Grandfather, Edward Roper , and hence his parents.
First Generation
1. James Roper. Occupation Paper Hanger.
He MAY be the James Roper who married Emma Bath, daughter of Edward J. Bath & Isabella, 4 Sep 1848 in St. Mary, Haggerston, Middx., England. Born About 1829 in St. George's East, Middx., England. This James Roper was Born About 1824 in Cheshunt, Essex and had a father named William.
Either way "my" James Roper had the following children:

2. Edward Roper. Born About 1852 in St. Lukes, Middx., England. Occupation House Decorator (Master).
He married Maria Elizabeth Wenham, daughter of Robert Russell Wenham & Ann Young, 29 Jul 1872 in St Thomas,Bethnal Green, Middx., England. Born 9 Apr 1854 in 2 Brittania Gardens, Hoxton Old Town,Shoreditch, Middx., England.
Birth cert. for Edward James (allegedly her son) has the father as James and the Mother as Elizabeth Roper nee Wenham. Furthermore it is signed by "The mark of Elizabeth Roper". And yet 4 months earlier Maria Elizabeth Wenham managed to sign the Marriage register (although there is no proof that it was her hand.
They had the following children:

3. Edward James Roper. Born 25 Sep 1872 in 33 Baltic St.,Holborn,Middx., England. Occupation Painter's Labourer.
Described as James Roper in 1881 census, and James E. Roper in 1891 census.
Father on Birth cert given as James Roper & wife Elizabeth Roper nee Wenham. I believe this is Edward and Maria Elizabeth, but the father could of course be different.
4. Alice Maria Roper. Born 9 Sep 1879 in 23 Shap Street, Haggerston, Middx., England.
5. Elizabeth Ann Roper. Born 15 Nov 1883 in 66 Dunloe St., Haggerston, Middx., England.

6. Frederick Charles Roper. Born 9 Mar 1888 in 7 Stone Terrace, Edmonton, Middx., England.

7. John Robert Roper. Born 21 Mar 1890 in 21 St. Joseph's Road, Edmonton, Middx., England.

8. William James Roper. Born 18 Oct 1892 in 19 Stone Terrace, Town Road, Edmonton, Middx., England. Occupation Loan Society Collector.
Died in Cheshire about 1960.
Was Waiter when married.
He married Eunice Marjorie Tennant, daughter of John William Tennant & Fanny Johnson, 9 Nov 1912 in Register Office,Hackney, London. Born 13 Mar 1892 in Carlton Colville, Kessingland, Suffolk, England. Died About May 1963. Buried in Brighton Cematorium. Occupation Assistant Postmaster. Death Cause Pulmonary Embolism.
Died about 1963. Common-law wife of Fred Brinkworth for many years.
They had the following children:

10 ii. Francis John Roper (my father).
9. William Edward Hugh Roper. Born 9 Mar 1913 in 12 Portman Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, England.
There are some differences between William Edward Hugh's birth details and those of my father - Francis John Roper. However I believe that they are brothers. I do not know as I believe they were separated when young and have never met since. I would love to hear from anyone who knows more about William Edward Hugh and his family.
10. Francis John Roper. Born 11 Dec 1914 in 33 Cedars Road,Edmonton, Middx., England. Died 13 Mar 1966. Occupation Accountant. Death Cause Emphysema.
his wife says that he was named after an Uncle.
My Dad spent a time working for the British High Commision in Nigeria. Here is a picture of him taken around 1960 in Nigeria.
He married Patricia Dowsett, daughter of Augustus George Dowsett & May Beatrice Watson, 6 May 1961 in St Albans, Teddington, Middx., England. They had the following children:
