Annie and Spice

Back to my home pageAbout Us...Our Cats...My Family Tree...Family News...Email Me... Annie and Spice are our dogs. Annie is a female West Highland Terrier and Spice is a Cross Breed male. We got both of them from an animal rescue charity, Dog Alert.

Spice was our first dog. When we originally got him he was very scared of men, as he had unfortunately been beaten. He didn't know how to play, nor what grass was and would cower when he saw someone with a broom or a stick.
Happily now he's a pretty normal dog - he loves his walks and his bones. He looks really funny when he's just buried a bone, as I swear he's grinning with earth all over his nose.

Spice has a girlfriend Doberman called Kahli (above). She comes to see him every Monday!

Annie

Initially we were supposed to be fostering Annie, until she was found a permanent home. However Tessa soon fell in love with her and so we became her permanent home.
Annie is very good at amusing herself. She will take a carrot from the vegetable rack. She'll toss it around the room and then pounce on it repeatedly. Eventually she'll get the carrot between her front paws and eat it.

Unfortunately for more than a year now Annie's paws have been affected by a parasite known as Demodex Canus. Usually this parasite lives on dogs without affecting them. However if the dog's immune system fails for any reason the parasites can take hold. Unfortunately this was not diagnosed for the best part of a year, during which time Annie had to endure applications of antibiotics. About 6 months ago we got a second opinion from another vet and he found the parasite. Since then she's had quite a few Aludex baths, which have cleared up the problem. Unfortunately the parasite keeps coming back and she then has to have more baths. She's really shown her terrier spirit during this time and now, I'm glad to say, she's back to her playful self.
Annie on a roll!
As you can see she likes a roll, especially when there's something smelly on the grass to roll into her fur!
